The Local Organising Committee met today.
In view of the escalating COVID-19 coronavirus situation in Malaysia, and the uncertainty of this outbreak, we have made the decision to CANCEL the APSAVD 2020. The principal reason was to safeguard the safety and health of our Faculty, delegates, friends and sponsors, who would have come from all over the Asia Pacific region and beyond to attend this meeting.
Malaysia recorded over 100 new cases every day for the last four days, now hitting 900 cases in total today. We recorded two deaths attributed to COVID-19, the first coming from the hospital where I work. Our country went on a near lockdown yesterday, with our Prime Minister addressing the nation directly on live television twice, first to announce the new movement control order, and then again, to reinforce the message.
We thank the APSAVD for allowing us to bid for this meeting in Tokyo many years ago and subsequently having taken this meeting so close to being run. A/Prof Sazzli Kasim and I, together with the entire Organising Committee, had a wonderful time organising this event, and with great regret, are now unable to execute this meeting in June. Nonetheless, we look forward to your participation in future APSAVD events, especially if Malaysia were to host this meeting again.
If there are any queries, please feel free to contact the Secretariat at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will do our best to answer them as soon as possible.
Thank you again for your interest in our meeting this year.
Wishing you well and the best of health.
